Music & Performing Arts
Developing skills far beyond the classroom
Performing Arts at St Gregory the Great combines both the music and drama strands of the Victorian curriculum.
Music & Performing Arts
Performing Arts at St Gregory the Great combines both the music and drama strands of the Victorian curriculum. Children are exposed to a variety of styles of music and are encouraged to participate in class as performers and audience members.
The skills developed in performing arts goes far beyond the classroom, building confidence, focus, creative thinking, improvisation and appreciation for the artistic expression of different cultures, times and places. Our students have the opportunity to showcase their learning for an audience throughout the school year.
In the junior years we promote our music learning using the KODALY method which looks at learning Solfa sight singing and rhythm knowledge which we transfer to percussion instruments like the chimes and boom whackers. In the middle and senior years we extend our students’ music knowledge by including instrument learning on the ukulele and xylophones.
We also offer extra curricular music groups that years 3-6 can join with our school choir and school orchestra.

It’s not the curriculum that we offer that sets us apart...
....it’s the manner in which it’s delivered. Our teachers actively and passionately explore the possibilities of making their teaching practice more innovative, engaging and fun at every turn. This is the single ingredient that drives the most growth in our students.
